What is DreamCatcher and why do we use it?

DreamCatcher is a provider of career management software with the focus to empower New Zealand's youth by giving them the tools, extensive ideas, contacts and structure for their thoughts to make informed decisions to foster ownership of their future. It allows students and parents to share their career planning journey while allowing the Career Practitioner to add value to many students in a timely and effective way.

 

DreamCatcher collects Your personal information

The Service involves the storage of Data about a School and individuals. That Data can include personal information. “Personal information” is information about an identifiable individual and may include information such as the individual’s name, email address, telephone number, career information, computer and network information.

 

DreamCatcher may collect personal information directly from You when You:

  • Accept your privacy policy when you first log in
  • edit and update your profile,
  • contact the DreamCatcher support team, and
  • visit our Website.

You can always choose not to provide Your personal information to DreamCatcher, but it will mean that we are unable to provide You with the Service (either in full or at all).  You must notify DreamCatcher should you wish for your Data not to be stored in DreamCatcher.

 

DreamCatcher uses cookies

We and some of our affiliates and third-party service providers use “session ID” cookies. A session cookie is stored in the computer’s memory only during Your browsing session and are automatically deleted from the Your computer when the browser is closed. This cookie stores a session ID that is not personally identifiable to You, allowing the You to move from page to page without having to log-in repeatedly.

 

DreamCatcher may receive personal information from You about others

If You provide DreamCatcher with personal information about someone else, You must ensure that You are authorised to disclose that information to DreamCatcher and that, without DreamCatcher taking any further steps required by applicable data protection or privacy laws, DreamCatcher may collect, use and disclose such information for the purposes described in this Policy.

 

This means that You must take reasonable steps to ensure the individual concerned is aware of and consents to the terms of this Policy, including the fact that their personal information is being collected, the purposes for which that information is being collected and used, the intended recipients of that information, the individual’s right to obtain access to that information, DreamCatcher’s identity, and how to contact DreamCatcher.

 

DreamCatcher collects, holds, and uses Your personal information for limited purposes

DreamCatcher collects Your personal information so that we can provide You with the Service and any related services You may request. In doing so, DreamCatcher may use the personal information we have collected from You for purposes related to the provision of the Services including to:

  • identify who You are,
  • administer the Service, comply with laws and regulations in applicable jurisdictions,
  • provide Your Career Information to Careers Advisors/and or Staff at your School (the School, You, the student, are currently enrolled at), all communications with students are done via school staff unless permission has been granted otherwise.

By using the Service, You consent to Your personal information being collected, held and used in this way and for any other use, You authorise. DreamCatcher will only use Your personal information for the purposes described in this Policy or for other purposes with Your express permission.

 

It is Your responsibility to keep Your password to the Service safe. You should notify us as soon as possible if You become aware of any misuse of Your password, and immediately change your password within the Service.

 

DreamCatcher can aggregate Your non-personally identifiable data

By using the Service, You agree that DreamCatcher can access, aggregate and use non-identifying Data DreamCatcher has collected from You. This Data will in no way identify You or any other individual.

DreamCatcher may use this aggregated non-identifying Data to:

  • assist us to better understand how our customers are using the Service,
  • provide our customers with further information regarding the uses and benefits of the Service,
  • otherwise to improve the Service.

 

DreamCatcher holds your personal information on servers located in your country New Zealand.

All Data, including personal and non-personal information, that is entered into the Service by You, or automatically imported on Your instruction, is transferred to DreamCatcher’s servers located in New Zealand as a function of transmission across the Internet. By using the Service, You consent to Your personal information being transferred to our servers for storage as set out in this Policy.

 

DreamCatcher takes steps to protect your personal information

DreamCatcher is committed to protecting the security of Your personal information and we take reasonable precautions to protect it from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Your personal information is stored on secure servers that have SSL Certificates issued by leading certificate authorities, and all Data transferred between You and the Service is encrypted.

 

However, the Internet is not in itself a secure environment and we cannot give an absolute assurance that Your information will be secure at all times. 

 

Transmission of personal information over the Internet is at Your own risk and You should only enter, or instruct the entering of, personal information to the Service within a secure environment.

 

In the event of a ‘notifiable privacy breach’, we will be required by law to notify the Privacy Commissioner and you, if you are an affected individual, of the privacy breach, unless a legal exception applies.

 

DreamCatcher only discloses Your Personal Information in limited circumstances

DreamCatcher will only disclose the personal information You have provided to us to entities outside the DreamCatcher Company if it is necessary and appropriate to facilitate the purpose for which Your personal information was collected pursuant to this Policy, including the provision of the Service.

 

DreamCatcher will not otherwise disclose Your personal information to a third party unless You have provided Your express consent.

 

The third-party that develops the DreamCatcher software, called MercuryIT, is also bound by the Privacy Policy Act 2020.

 

The third-party who host our servers do not control and are not permitted to access or use Your personal information except for the limited purpose of storing the information. This means that DreamCatcher does not currently “disclose” personal information to third parties located overseas.

 

You may request access to Your personal information

It is Your responsibility to ensure that the personal information You provide to us is accurate, complete and up-to-date. DreamCatcher is transparent and You have access to all information in your career profile under Reports, these can be downloaded by You. You are also most welcome to communicate directly with to ask questions by emailing: jane@dreamcatcher.school.nz.

 

DreamCatcher will process Your request within 20 working days after the date DreamCatcher receives your request, provided we are not otherwise prevented from doing so on legal grounds. If we are unable to meet Your request, we will let you know why. For example, it may be necessary for us to deny Your request if it would have an unreasonable impact on the privacy or affairs of other individuals, or if it is not reasonable and practicable for us to process Your request in the manner You have requested. In some circumstances, it may be necessary for us to seek to arrange access to Your personal information through a mutually agreed intermediary (for example, the Subscriber).

 

We’ll only keep Your personal information for as long as we require it for the purposes of providing You with the Service.

 

You can opt-out of any email communications

DreamCatcher sends billing information, product information, Service updates and Service notifications to our school Subscribers via email. Our emails do contain clear and obvious instructions describing how our school Subscribers can choose to be removed or unsubscribed from any mailing list not essential to the Service. DreamCatcher will remove school subscribers at their request and ultimately we will remove Your access to the Service.

 

You are responsible for the transfer of Your data to third-party applications

The Service may allow You, the Subscriber, or another Invited User within the relevant subscription to the Service to transfer Data, including Your personal information, electronically to and from third-party applications. DreamCatcher has no control over and takes no responsibility for, the privacy practices or content of these applications. You are responsible for checking the privacy policy of any such applications so that You can be informed of how they will handle personal information.

 

DreamCatcher has a privacy complaints process

If You wish to complain about how we have handled Your personal information, please provide our Privacy Officer with full details of Your complaint and any supporting documentation: by email at jane@dreamcatcher.school.nz

Our Privacy Officer will endeavour to:
provide an initial response to Your query or complaint within 20 business days, and
investigate and attempt to resolve Your query or complaint within 30 business days or such longer period as is necessary and notified to you by our Privacy Officer.

 

This policy may be updated from time to time

DreamCatcher reserves the right to change this Policy at any time, and any amended Policy is effective upon posting to this Website. DreamCatcher will make every effort to communicate any significant changes to You via email or notification via the Service. Your continued use of the Service will be deemed acceptance of any amended Policy.

Definitions

  • DreamCatcher” means DreamCatcher Solutions NZ Limited which is a New Zealand registered company with its registered office in Tauranga.
  • Data” means any data inputted by You or with Your authority into the Website.
  • Service” means the Career Management services made available (as may be changed or updated from time to time by DreamCatcher) via the Website.
  • Website” means the Internet site at the domain dreamcatcher.school.nz or any other site operated by DreamCatcher from time to time.
  • Invited User” means any person or entity, other than the Subscriber, that uses the Service with the authorisation of the Subscriber from time to time.
  • Subscriber” means the person who registers to use the Service, and, where the context permits, includes any entity on whose behalf that person registers to use the Service.
  • You” means the Subscriber, and where the context permits, an Invited User. “Your” has a corresponding meaning.
